Liberals advocate for open borders, arguing that locking out illegal immigrants is racism and demanding that all democratic nations freely welcome refugees. Yet, their logic flips when it comes to Kashmir. While they preach global multiculturalism and open borders for illegal Arab or Rohingya immigrants, they demand a ‘closed border’ policy for Jammu & Kashmir, arguing it shouldn’t be opened to fellow Indians. This hypocrisy dictates that foreigners have a ‘right’ to settle anywhere, but Indian citizens shouldn’t have the right to settle in Kashmir. Unsurprisingly, the rhetoric of these intellectuals post-Article 370 closely mirrors Pakistan’s narrative.
